Texture in Web Design

1. Why have the benefits of texture sometimes been overlooked?

It is sometimes referred to as a "dirty" or "grungy" design. But textures can bring a website or picture together but defiantly should not be over used.

2. What is the usual difference between a texture and a pattern?

Patterns are typically small, repeating, tileable elements, whereas textures tend to be much bigger images that don’t repeat. Imagine a Venn diagram, with textures on the left and patterns on the right, with a little overlap in the middle. So, some textures are also patterns.

3. What are 2 ways to focus peoples’ attention using texture?

1. A textured logo against a clean background.
2. A clean logo against a textured background.

4. How can texture enhance the structure of your information?

Textures can highlight different important items. It can be used to separate different items like Lines, Boxes, and contrast.

5. How does texture enhance the identity or atmosphere of a site?

Textures can enhance the identity of a website and give it more meaning. This means that the Texture would have to be used based on the same concept of your whole overall website or picture.

what is meant by the following tips:

1. Maintain Legibility
Sometimes people get a little over board with their textures and text... This happens where people get their text and their textures confused and you can't read or understand what's under the texture.

2. Don’t Beat a Dead Horse
People intend to overdo their textures in the background or on anything in their website.... Textures intend to be very distracting if you use it in "bulk".

3. Practice Means Improvement
Practice your textures... This mean using textures in different places that you normally wouldn't think of, using different textures that you wouldn't always use, and experimenting with different designs with your textures.

4. If It Serves No Purpose, Take it Out
Always have a plan for your textures and know what you would use them for and how to relate back to the website or image that you are making. if you can't justify why you are using the texture for improvements on your picture then take it out.

5. Consider the Effect You Are Trying to Achieve
Always plan out what textures to use. This means having a plan for the final product of your texture and moving on to the next item on your list.

6. Collect Resources so you Don’t Have to Search Later
Make sure you collect all the website and sources of where you found everything that you want to use. There is always the chance that you come across something that you might want to use in your website and you lose it because you never saved where you found it at.

7. Learn Masks
There are a lot of different masks that can save you a lot of time in the long run. If you mess up with a mask its easier to correct yourself rather than restarting your entire texture or what you are working on.

8. Don’t Sacrifice Quality for Loading Time
Repeating texture patterns are a good way to save on the loading times of backgrounds and larger elements. Loading time shouldn't be your primary concern about your texture.

9. Choose Textures Logically
Textures are meant to build identity. If you are making a website then always have it based on the same concept. If you build a website for a furniture store, then using a rusty texture would be the best design.

What are 3 different ways you can come up with your own original texture images?

You can take your own pictures, scan stuff on a printer, or combine different textures.

Social-Media and how it could affect a person

based on the article: "They loved your GPA, then they saw your Tweets" By Natasha Singer. New York Times.

After reading this article, I plan to keep more of an eye on my Social-Media sites, Make sure i don't post anything inappropriate or that would effect my appearance, and to have more of an understanding of what people do to get to know more about you. Upon reflection that my online presence has been very "family friendly" and safe for people to understand i'm not a bad person or that i don't have a horrible appearance but still shows a little bit to much of some funny or in some peoples opinion inappropriate images. Because of this, I understand that i should look closer to what i'm sharing or commenting on before i do it.

First, I plan to keep an eye on my Social-Media sites. This is important because it would show what type of stuff i post or give a bad impression on me and could hurt with anything that you could possibly do in the future.

Second, I plan to make sure i don't post anything inappropriate or that would effect my appearance. This step is equally important because this would also effect my appearances with any jobs or friends that would think i am immature and hurt my relationship with other people and different things.

Some question for the author that i had on this subject are...

Why would a college look at your Social-Media in the first place if they have many different applications?

If more applicants knew about them searching on your Social-Media would this change their attitude or would they even care...?

What is some different type of information on Social-Media that could hurt someone..? all illegal information or could it be not that big of a deal but still effect their application?

Old Logo

New Logo

The Kansas City Logo

Why did they change the logo?

They changed the logo because they believe that it would be more classic looking and clean.

Why these colors?

Resemble the logos of the long-revered Kansas City Monarchs and Blues baseball teams.

Why this typeface?

This typeface is more "clean" and more sophisticated looking for the baseball teams. But some people might call it boring or un original from the old logo.

What i personally like more or less about the new logo?

I Like the new colors and typeface on the logo rather than the typeface and color of the old logo. The old logo was boring and plain white and didn't look very proportional compared to the new logo.

PERSONALITY TYPE

For my exact personality type i had ESTJ which mean Extraversion, Sensing, Thinking, and Judging. all of the screen captures from the website can explain more.

With this it explains the ESTJ trait a lot better and explains exactly what it is and what the personality types for ESTJ are.

This Explains some well known people that have the same personality trait as me. Then explains there exact personality type and what they did in there life time.

Don't make me think - Steve Krug

For each one of these different principles below I've found a website to describe what is going on.

1. A site with excessive background noise or with excessive busy-ness.
LINKhttp://www.lingscars.com
This shows WAY to much of background noise and busy-ness with everything going on you have no idea what you are looking for. Then you also have a very annoying music in the background that is pretty much forcing you to click off of this website.

2. A site with a very low amount of competing noise.
LINKhttp://www.ewedding.com
This is a very good example of a website with not very much competing noise because there are no annoying animations or music in the background that would distract you from the main topic or why you went to the website in the first place

3. A site where it is not obvious what is clickable.
LINK: http://irishwrecksonline.net
This doesn't show any obvious signs that there would be any links on this webpage. There is also a lot other stuff wrong with this website but this probably shows the most.

4. A site where it is obvious what is clickable.
LINKhttp://www.unlocking.com
This website had a very good example of where you click if you go to this website because it doesn't make you think a lot whenever you first go to the website and its very easy to find out anything you would be looking for inside a link.

5. A site not split up into clearly defined areas.
LINKhttp://arngren.net
This is a VERY bad example of a website all together... but i believe that this would be a great example of not very defined areas because of how cramped everything all together was.

6. A site split up into clearly defined areas.
LINKhttp://www.cloudpassage.com
This shows a very good example of defined areas because everything is very spaces apart to the point to where it doesn't look bad but its just right to find your way around and know what your looking for.

7. A site that makes good use of conventions.
LINKhttp://www.amazon.com
This shows a lot of good different convention like the logo, important items, and obvious places to go.

8. A site that make good use of visual hierarchies.
LINKhttp://www.freshbooks.com
This shows a good example of visual hierarchies because it has all of the same color scheme, good contrast, shows whats most important, and the important things are very obvious.

This is another fancy logo that i've done on photoshop that is really simple and easy to make. This is good for anything and really easy to change the text. This was made with a new downloaded font that i've never seen or messed with before with a easy circle in the background to have more of the "logo" effect towards the text.

DON"T MAKE ME THINK...

This has three different website examples that you might run into and that might make you think for a number of different reasons...
This is KU's official website first question mark that i found on this would be where would you sign up for the school at or if you wanted to talk to someone about it. Then another question mark would be why do they have so much stuff surrounding everything and its hard to find anything that you would be looking for.

This is K-State's official website and this is pretty much the same way that KU's website is but its really plain and boring and theres not much to attract anyone to the website. That and it doesn't have enough information, what if someone was looking for the college plans and how long the college is or some of the college classes, it doesn't show much on where you could find these things.

This website is a school for working on cars and mechanics on a car. This website has very little attraction to this sight and all the links aren't very noticeable so one of the question marks would be where are you finding out what you want? or if you need to know an address it doesn't show you where the school would be at.

One photoshop project that i have done so far is a logo, this is just a cool logo for my initials in my name. I used a lot of different circles and shapes to put this all together, then a new font that i've never seen before that matched up with the circle very nicely. This makes a great logo for anything and can change the color and text really easily for any company or project logo you would want to do.
Who is Engelbart and what did he invent?
Engelbart a engineer and inventor, was born on January 30, 1925. He invented the computer mouse and some hypertext (well this is the two main things that he is known for). He ended up drafting into the U.S. Navy and serving 2 years as a radar technician. The first mouse was made by a wooden shell with two medal wheels for it to move. He ended up selling the "mouse" (called this because of the shape and wire that came out of the back of it) to Apple for something like $40,000.

Hello My name is Codey Bailes, i am in Web Design as a E-Comm student for the Junior class at Olathe Northwest High School. Lately we have been learning tons of different new ways to make some cool websites. This is one way that i am making a website then the other way is through google sites. We have to Compare of how there relate and don't relate. Lets start off by saying that so far i am liking the Blogger websites better because it gives you more obvious choice that is easy to find. But Google Sites you have to hunt down everything you do or want to edit on your website. But for the most part you can still do some of the same stuff on either one like, templates, colors, and text. but on Blogger you can also edit the HTML coding. So with the HTML codes and how easy it is to get around on Blogger i would officially like blogger more than i like google sites.
